-
Waistbeads are strands of small beads worn around the waist or hips, most commonly rooted in West African traditions. They can mean different things depending on the person and culture, but some of the most common meanings are:
✦ Cultural identity & heritage
✦ Femininity & body appreciation
✦ Rites of passage
✦ Spiritual or symbolic intentions
✦ Body awareness
-
Alll waistbeads are at least 40 inches in length for your convenience when tying.
Waistbeads may be extended up to 50 inches for an additional fee — lovingly made to honor your unique body and ensure a comfortable, intentional fit.
-
Tie your waistbeads comfortably — never tightly, and leave enough room to sit, bend, and breathe with ease. Avoid tying over irritated or sensitive skin. If they feel too tight or uncomfortable, remove or resize them.
Waistbeads are not meant to restrict, shape, or control your body — they are adornment, intention, and self-connection.
Tie them with care, and wear them with reverence.
-
Waistbeads are worn on the waist or hips, wherever feels most aligned for you. There is no “right” placement — your body, your intention.
Placement options:
✦ High waist — above the belly button (awareness, posture, style)
✦ Mid-waist — at the natural waistline (everyday wear)
✦ Low waist / hips — below the belly button (sensuality, adornment, expression)Many women layer multiple strands at different levels for personal expression.
Hathor waistbeads are tie-on and meant to stay on—through sleep, bathing, and daily life. Because they do not stretch, they offer a gentle, natural connection to your body.

YOUR SACRED CARE INSTRUCTIONS:
Wear With Intention
Tie waistbeads gently & comfortably, allowing ease in movement and breath. Waistbeads may be worn at the waist or hips — placement is a personal ritual.
Mindful Daily Adornment
Waistbeads are designed for continuous wear and may be worn overnight. Be mindful during moments of vigorous movement and/or wearing tight garments. Adjust waistbeads as needed to honor your comfort.
Water, Oils, & Natural Elements
Your waistbeads may be worn in water but extended exposure—including swimming, soaking, or hot tubs — may soften threads & affect longevity. For pieces featuring metallic, painted, or specialty elements, limiting water exposure helps preserve their quality.
Honor Change & Gentle Care
Waistbeads are delicate by nature and should be handled with care, avoiding pulling or excessive tension. Waistbeads do not stretch; if they begin to feel tight or restrictive, they should be removed or resized. Hathor waistbeads are not tools of measurement—they are symbols of awareness, acceptance, and grace through change.
*Each Hathor piece is handmade with intention. Because natural materials are used, no two items are exactly alike — variations in color, shape, and texture are part of what makes each piece uniquely yours.
